Yes… we missed the August newsletter… no, we are not talking about it… but we are talking about B Corp… sorry not sorry…

Hello from IQ Bookkeeping!
At this point, you may be thinking, “Wait… didn’t IQ Bookkeeping already announce something about B Corp™?”
And honestly? Fair.
We have talked about the process, shared pieces of the journey, hinted at the paperwork, mentioned the certification, celebrated the submission, and possibly made B Corp part of our office vocabulary forever.
But now we are giving it the official newsletter treatment:
IQ Bookkeeping is officially a Certified B Corporation™.
This certification represents a lot more than a badge on our website. It reflects the kind of company we have been working to build: one that cares about responsible business practices, transparency, accountability, community involvement, sustainability, and helping mission-driven businesses make stronger financial decisions.
For us, becoming B Corp Certified was not about becoming a different company.
It was about documenting, strengthening, and holding ourselves accountable to the values that were already part of how we work.
Housekeeping
Always have room for a little housekeeping even in our big announcement newsletters.

What B Corp Certification Means
B Corp Certification is a third-party certification through B Lab that looks at how a business operates across multiple areas, including governance, workers, community, environment, and customers.
It asks businesses to look beyond profit alone and consider how their decisions affect people, communities, and the planet.
- How do we treat our team?
- How do we support our clients?
- How do we choose vendors?
- How do we give back to our community?
- How do we make decisions responsibly?
- How do we document the work we say matters?
For a bookkeeping company, those questions feel especially important.
Because financial systems are not just about tracking money. They are about showing what a business values, what it prioritizes, and whether its day-to-day decisions line up with its mission

Early Adopters: Our B Corp Journey
Our B Corp journey took time, documentation, reflection, and a lot of internal conversation.
There were policies to review, processes to document, vendors to evaluate, impact areas to measure, and plenty of moments where we had to ask ourselves, “Are we doing this as intentionally as we could be?”
Some parts of the process confirmed what we already knew: IQ Bookkeeping has always been rooted in care, education, transparency, and service.
Other parts challenged us to improve. That was one of the most valuable parts of the journey.
B Corp Certification gave us a framework to look at the business from every angle, not just what we do for clients, but how we operate as a team, how we show up in the community, and how we make decisions behind the scenes.
It helped us turn good intentions into clearer systems.
And as bookkeepers, we love a good system.
Make no mistake, this was a major challenge for many reasons, primarily because B Lab updated their standards in 2026 so the bar to certify is much higher now. Watch this presentation Kendall gave about our frustrations about our then-unfinished journey back in July: Navigating the New B Corp Standards – Lessons from an Early Adopter.mp4

Why This Matters to Our Clients
Our clients trust us with one of the most important parts of their business: their financial information.
That trust matters.
Being B Corp Certified reinforces our commitment to being thoughtful, transparent, and accountable in how we work. It also helps us support other businesses that want their numbers to reflect more than profit alone.
For clients who are mission-driven, values-based, nonprofit-adjacent, community-focused, or B Corp curious, we understand that your bookkeeping needs to support a bigger picture.
You may want to know:
Are we spending in alignment with our values?
Can we track donations, volunteer hours, community work, or impact-related expenses?
Are our systems helping us make better decisions?
Are we prepared for grants, reports, board updates, certification processes, or year-end planning?
Do our financial reports tell the full story of what our business is doing?
That is where bookkeeping becomes more than compliance.
It becomes clarity.
Our Sustainability Board: The Team Behind the Work
This certification was not one person’s project. It took the full IQ Bookkeeping team showing up in different ways.
Kendall led the vision and helped guide the company through what this certification means for IQ’s future. Her leadership kept the process connected to the bigger purpose: building a bookkeeping company that supports better business.
Sara – Sustainability Officer: She is the point person for environmental impact surveys, metrics and organizing IQBK Impact Day. She also manages our grievance process, ensuring that anyone on the planet with feedback for us will be heard
Amanda – Compliance Officer: She is responsible for running our quarterly Business & Sustainability meetings, verifying meeting notes, ensuring we stay in compliance with all of our relevant governing bodies, and documenting all new policies as we create them.
Andrea – JEDI/ Human Rights/ Vendor Procurement Officer: She is responsible for updating appropriate language/communication standards, organizing our annual JEDI training, managing and documenting our entire Vendor Procurement process.
Winnie Mulamba – B Keeper Consultant: Winnie is contractor that brought clarity to our final round to evidence submission and will meet with us quarterly to ensure we continue to meet criteria as our business grows and shifts
Our bookkeeping team supported the foundation that makes this work possible every day: clean records, thoughtful client support, responsible processes, and financial clarity.
Our client-facing work also shaped this journey. Every client conversation, process improvement, resource, newsletter, and bookkeeping question helped us think more deeply about how we serve businesses with care and consistency.

What We Learned
One of the biggest lessons from the B Corp process is that impact does not have to be vague.
It can be tracked.
It can be documented.
It can be built into daily operations.
A business can care about its people and still review the numbers.
A business can support its community and still make strategic financial decisions.
A business can choose better vendors, improve its systems, and build sustainability into the budget.
A business can be generous without being financially chaotic.
That is the sweet spot we care about: helping businesses make thoughtful, values-aligned decisions with clear financial information behind them.
What We Hope to Continue Doing
B Corp Certification is not the finish line. It is a commitment to keep going.
As we move forward, we hope to continue:
- Supporting mission-driven businesses with bookkeeping that helps them understand their numbers and make confident decisions.
- Sharing practical financial education through newsletters, resources, Tip Tuesday videos, and client conversations.
- Improving our internal systems so our team can work sustainably and serve clients well.
- Choosing vendors and partners more intentionally.
- Documenting community involvement, volunteer hours, service projects, and other forms of impact throughout the year.
- Helping more B Corps, aspiring B Corps, nonprofits, and values-based businesses build financial systems that support their mission.
- Participating in and supporting the Charlotte B Corp Collective community.
- Finding more ways to connect bookkeeping with better business practices.
In other words, we are not just asking, “Did the transaction get categorized?”
We are also asking, “What story are the numbers telling?”

Thank you
To our clients, partners, team members, and community: thank you.
Thank you for trusting us with your books, your questions, your messy spreadsheets, your big decisions, your “quick bookkeeping question” emails, and your mission-driven work.
We are proud to be part of the B Corp community, and we are excited to keep learning, improving, and supporting businesses that want to do good work in a financially sustainable way.
If your business is trying to put its values into practice, your financial systems should support that, too.
And we would love to help.
Warmly,
The IQ Bookkeeping Team
